These towns support the local agriculture community of cattle and sheep graziers  who date back to the first settlement of Australia. Gas and oil exploration of the Cooper/Eromanga Basins produces around 1.5million barrels of oil
per year.

Primary Industries play a huge role in the shire’s economy with sheep, cattle, fish and an array of birds and wildlife calling the shire home.

Today, Eromanga is vital to the history of the nation as the newest paleontological frontier in Queensland. Eromanga is home to some of the newest and largest dinosaur specimens ever found in Australia and is leading the world in arid zone megafauna research.
